Maurice Freedman (Bio) |
| Born in Boston, Maurice Freedman (1904-1985) attended art school at the Massachusetts College of Art before heading off to Europe for closer study of modern theories of painting, primarily Cubism and Expressionism. Upon his return to America, he settled in New York City and worked to synthesize these modern European ideas with authentic American subject matter. He was joined in this direction by colleagues Marsden Hartley, John Marin, and Milton Avery. With subjects and locales in New York City to Maine to Cape Cod and Europe, Freedman exhibited his paintings at Midtown Galleries in New York City for almost 50 years. Greenhut Galleries is pleased to show Maurice Freedman's colorful and energetic paintings, and to honor his uniquely American voice in 20th century art. |
