George Lloyd (Bio) |
| George Lloyd has lived on both east and west coasts and is represented in public and private collections both here and abroad. He is a native New Englander who began his study of painting at RISD and Yale University. He has been living and working here in Maine for over two decades. His work, from the early 70's in the San Francisco Bay Area, was predominantly figure based, but in the middle of that decade his focus shifted to a more rigorously conceptual mode of working that incorporated motifs, both geometric and architectural. His recent manner is a highly eclectic one and might well be understood as a rather amazing pictorial synthesis, which would, for example, serendipitously superimpose the color and light of Venetian master, Francesco Guardi, onto the scaffolding of New York School painter, Hans Hofmann! Moreover, it may be said that, in the same Venetian mold, Lloyd is an unabashedly lyrical and consummate colorist. |
