Sumner Winebaum (Bio) |
| While building a substantial career in the New York advertising world in the 1950s and 1960s, Sumner Winebaum worked to learn the craft of sculptor at the Art Students League. He says he has always sculpted, no matter where he was or what his day job was. Perseverence has paid off. He has won awards (the Hitchner Award and the deKalb Award, among others); he has completed many commissions. He has had several solo shows over the years and is represented in private and public collections across the country.
Sumner Winebaum describes himself as a realist, whose passionate interest lies with the human form. To me, he says, the body is an inexhaustible subject. It is eternally provocative, continually communicative. And while he admits to being 75, he insists that the creative juices still flow. A survey of his new work here confirms that it is so. |
